  • ( ) Sorbara rocks the fan vote

Recently, after rising electro-pop star Martina Sorbara used a naughty word in print, her savvy-politician father admonished her, telling her to "stop saying the word 'tits' during interviews." As minxy Sorbara retells that story, she brings attention to her assets once again – using her dad's words innocently, we're sure. So, who's the savvy one here?

It's a gorgeous autumn day, perfect for sharing tofu cubes and wheatgrass shots on a street-side patio with Sorbara and her hubby Dan Kurtz, the principals of the quartet Dragonette. The Toronto couple is currently based in London, where their coquettish, coolly futuristic new album Galore is getting all sorts of nice recognition: "The definition of brilliant 2007 pop," says Observer Music Monthly. Back in Canada, the couple is making the press rounds, chatting up a record that first started making waves with the release of the saucy single I Get Around. More>>

  • ( ) Group plans to sell tiny pieces of farm owned by Abraham Lincoln

LERNA, Ill. - The owners of farmland that once belonged to Abraham Lincoln want to give people a chance to own about 6.5 square centimetres of history.

The Friends of the Abraham Lincoln Historical Farm plan to sell tiny parcels of the land, said Dale Parsons, manager of the Rockford, Ill.-based group. Some of the money would go to charity, Parsons said Thursday. Some of the land may be reserved for charities to buy and resell during fundraisers, he said.

He was not sure how many parcels would be sold.

The land is near Lerna, not far from the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site.

Lincoln bought the land from his father, Thomas Lincoln, who needed the money. Thomas Lincoln continued farming the land.

The group bought the land last fall for $1.25 million from Raymond Phipps, a Springfield man whose family owned the property for more than a century. More>>
